GAIN Innovation Network



Network (GAIN) - a partnership between the South West RDA, Plymouth University and Plymouth City Council - commissioned SERIO to conduct an assessment of the city's baseline position with regard to innovation.

In order to provide an insight into current levels of innovation at firm-level, SERIO conducted a telephone survey with around 500 businesses, split between Cornwall and the Plymouth area. The questionnaire collected information on how businesses approached the development of new or improved products and services. A number of proxy indicators of innovation were also used to compare Plymouth with similar towns and cities across the UK.

As a result of this work SERIO are now involved in developing a model for the longer-term assessment of progress towards the goal of Plymouth becoming a 'top twenty innovation city'.
