Screening for Anal Cancer: SERIO to Review Literature for UK National Screening Committee

SERIO has been commissioned by the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) to review the research available on screening for Anal Cancer. The UK NSC advises Ministers and the NHS in the four UK countries about all aspects of health screening.

Anal cancer, or cancer of the anus, is a rare type of cancer that is slightly more common in women than men. About 850 people are diagnosed with this type of cancer each year in the UK.  SERIO will review all the research relating to this cancer and produce a detailed report on whether screening for anal cancer meets the UK NSC’s criteria. The UK NSC has 22 criteria which should ideally be met before screening for a condition is initiated. On completion the report will go out to public consultation.
