About SERIO

Based within the Research and Innovation department of the University of Plymouth, SERIO is an applied research unit offering specialist evaluation and research services both regionally and nationally. We work with public, private and third sector organisations, providing bespoke services tailored to our clients’ needs. By listening closely to clients’ objectives, we make sure that our outputs are robust, accessible and readily utilised, enabling our clients to make informed decisions and develop effective policy and strategy. This client-focused approach, allied with the most up-to-date, objective research and intelligence techniques, has made us a leader in the field.

Specialising in the evaluation of publicly funded programmes, the research team works closely with a wide range of partners to provide evidence for the continuous improvement of services and the strengthening of regional development. The SERIO team is experienced in working alongside partners; taking a flexible approach; co-designing and collaborating as appropriate; and ensuring that evidence is shared throughout the research lifecycle.

Our core interdisciplinary team includes experts from a variety of backgrounds. Additionally, we collaborate with academics from across the University, as well as other external specialists, in order to provide clients with the best possible expertise and insight. We pride ourselves on bringing academic rigour to applied areas of research, and on working with our clients to ensure research messages are widely shared to promote best practice.

Public Engagement

Public engagement with research is at the heart of SERIO’s approach, and constitutes one of our key University priorities. We use a range of effective and innovative methods to access the community voice, ensuring our clients achieve optimal insight from the communities they seek to effect change in, and maximising the potential for their programmes to transform lives in a way which is both appropriate and desirable for target populations. At SERIO, we select public engagement activities which will enhance both the quality and the impact of our research.

Research Impact

Through effective stakeholder engagement and targeted dissemination, SERIO strives to maximise the impact of all insight generated by research conducted. We will develop the most applicable impact pathway in consultation with our clients, identifying both intermediate and longer-term impacts, and ensuring the research is developed in a way which maximises its potential contribution to society and the economy. We work with our clients to ensure outputs reach the most appropriate audiences, allowing the research to inform and influence policy and strategy as appropriate.
