Culture and Tourism

By SERIO

Culture and TourismSERIO has built up a strong track record working in the culture and tourism sectors. In spite of the economic slowdown, the creative sector is projected to recover faster than other sectors and we have been working to help support the sector’s development and understand its potential impact on the economy.

Experience
SERIO has worked on a wide range of projects across the culture and tourism sectors. SERIO were commissioned by the Plymouth Culture Board to identify the contribution of culture in terms of the environment, economy and social impact. The report drew on ten case studies of cities which have used culture to develop their economies.

We also undertook an economic impact assessment of a proposal to sink a decommissioned warship in the Republic of Ireland, by drawing upon knowledge of similar tourist projects SERIO could project tourist spend and stimulation to the local economy.

We also support local arts organisations and recently produced a vision document for a partnership of art groups who propose to transform a derelict heritage building into managed workspace with a café and business support. We then provided full support for funding applications to help achieve this ambitious project.

SERIO Research Helps the Blue Mile ExpandSERIO was commissioned to conduct a socio-economic assessment of the inaugural Blue Mile event in Plymouth in July 2010. Following on from the success of the event and the research findings, it has just been announced that it will become a national event.
Blue MileJuly 2010 saw hundreds of Plymouth visitors take to the water - swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding - as part of the Blue Mile, a two-day event designed to encourage engagement with and appreciation of the marine environment.
