Voluntary and Community Sector

By SERIO

SERIO has a long-term commitment to working in partnership with voluntary and community organisations. In the light of recent government policy, and the concept of the Big Society we help to understand and promote the future role the sector can play in the economy and service delivery.

Our affiliation with the sector is rooted in our understanding of the contribution that it makes to the lives of individuals and local communities. Our research and intelligence work has been vital in developing policy and strategy to strengthen the sector, especially in terms of capacity building and looking towards the delivery of public services.

Experience
SERIO has worked on an extensive portfolio of projects exploring issues affecting voluntary and community sector organisations. For instance, we recently worked with a large national charity, looking at how to increase the number of volunteers within their fundraising offices. We have previously collaborated with the Criminal Justice team at Plymouth University on a report for the Home Office on support for prolific offenders. We have also carried out many evaluations looking at a host of relevant topics including capacity building, grant giving and intervention programmes. We apply the same ethos of clear communication and practical outputs to all our clients, from government departments and large charities, right down to grassroots community groups.

For information about other voluntary and community sector projects that SERIO have delivered please see Our Successes.

Macmillan VolunteersSERIO have recently won funding from the Plymouth University Community Research Awards to help Macmillan Cancer Support investigate how to identify, attract and retain good quality volunteers.
Integrated Offender ManagementFollowing on from their development of a monitoring framework for Plymouth’s integrated offender management scheme, Seven 2 One, SERIO have been commissioned to carry out a review of the costs and potential savings generated by the programme.
Rural Enterprise SolutionsThe Rural Enterprise Solutions project aims to provide knowledge and information, as well as facilitating networking between farmers, rural businesses and communities.
