Killala Bay - Feasibility Study

SERIO undertook an economic impact assessment of the proposal to sink a decommissioned warship in Killala Bay in the Republic of Ireland, using knowledge of a similar project undertaken in Whitsand Bay, Cornwall.

Drawing on data from other studies of artificial reefs from around the world, and primary research in County Mayo, SERIO estimated that the 4 million Euro investment would take four years to pay off via increased tourist spend and stimulation to the local economy.

The project is now set to go ahead, and several other potential artificial reef sites across the UK are under consideration for development.
