SERIO leads Devon County Councils Workforce Skills Research Programme 2013-16

Devon County Council has appointed SERIO to run a 'Workforce Skills Research Programme' spanning a three-year period from April 2013 to March 2016.

The aim of the research programme is to provide a skills evidence base which supports the 'Workforce Skills Action Plan' produced by the Council's Economy and Enterprise Service. The research will help the council to monitor their action plan activity to ensure that they are aware of the challenges facing businesses and the workforce in relation to skills.

The central primary research component is a Workforce Skills Survey, which will be conducted through telephone interviews with over 380 Devon-based businesses in each year of the programme. The aim of the survey is to better understand the issues in relation to skills, such as skills gaps amongst the current workforce or where skills shortages are constraining growth.

Other components of the research programme include the development of a core indicator set against which the health of Devon's labour market can be mapped and assessed; quarterly skills briefings designed to unpick recent data releases and policy announcements in terms of their meaning for Devon; and a review of the skills demanded by employers and the main suppliers.
