SERIO manage large-scale Return to Practice (Nursing) Placement Survey

The South West Strategic Health Authority (SHA) commissioned Plymouth University's Faculty of Health, Education and Society to review the implications of supporting returning to nursing students.

Through offering practice placements in non-NHS organisations such as care homes, social enterprises and charitable care establishments. The Return to Practice (Nursing) Programme is designed for those individuals who have previously been registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a 1st level nurse (Adult, Child, Mental Health or Learning Disabilities) but whose registration has lapsed. As part of the programme, students are required to successfully complete a minimum of 100 hours (and a maximum of 150 hours) in a practice placement.

The aim of the research was to determine both the willingness of non-NHS organisations to provide practice placements for Return to Practice (Nursing) students, and any infrastructure requirements to enable this to take place. SERIO supported this important project through designing and managing a postal survey sent to a sample of 1,277 non-NHS organisations in the South West to establish their views.
