Evaluation approach
The evaluation incorporated a mixed methods approach; quantitative data provided evidence around the impact and success of Blossom House and the specific support for women aged 25 and under, and the qualitative enquiry enabled the attribution of these outputs to the various funding streams, as well as exploration of what constituted success and what improvements could be made in the future.
Outcomes and impacts
The Blossom project addressed a critical need for specialised, safe, women-only accommodation that provides trauma informed support which can help break cycles of offending, trauma, and disadvantage. Its holistic approach was widely recognised as an effective model for supporting vulnerable women by stakeholders, delivery staff and by the women themselves, and was viewed as a crucial resource for the local area and a model that could be replicated elsewhere.
The Sparkles project provided vulnerable young women aged 18-25, with access to women-only accommodation, housing support, and wider support services. The project’s success was due to the provision of specific support for young women and the recognition that women in this age range have complex and unique needs; with more prevalence of neurodiversity and social isolation.
Overview
Trevi received funding from The Home Office and Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to develop Blossom House. Blossom House has capacity for nine women (seven residential beds and two crisis beds) and is designed specifically for women who have been involved with the criminal justice system. The house provides a range of wrap around support and interventions to help women reintegrate into society. In addition to the residential support offered through Blossom House, Trevi also provided outreach support, fulfilled by their Assertive Outreach Practitioners (AOPs). Trevi also led on the Sparkles project, which aimed to prevent violence against, and homelessness, in women aged 25 and under.
The Social Research Unit was commissioned as an Evaluation Partner to assess the learning and impact of Blossom House, Blossom Outreach and Sparkles.
