Evaluation of WorkFit
Client: Pluss CIC and Livewell Southwest
Duration: 1 year
Funder: Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Department of Health and Social Care Challenge Fund
Evaluation approach
The Social Research Unit worked closely with Pluss CIC and Livewell Southwest to understand what worked well and less well with the approach; the different impacts this approach had on participants, GPs, and employers; and what the future may look like for such an approach. Regular monitoring of KPIs and distance travelled data also enabled the WorkFit team to test, learn and adapt throughout the lifetime of the project. In order to deliver a robust and comprehensive evaluation of the WorkFit initiative, the SRU used a mixed methods approach. Quantitative data collected through the monitoring process played an important role in helping to assess the effectiveness and impact of the integrated model. A qualitative element which encompasses the views of participants, delivery staff, GPs, employers and key stakeholders was also an essential component, providing further depth and understanding to the evaluation.
Outcomes and impacts
Below are some of the key outcomes and impacts of the evaluation:

Overview
The Social Research Unit took on the role of the evaluation partner for Plymouth's local WorkFit project, a collaborative effort between Pluss CIC and Livewell Southwest. This innovative project introduced a fast-track, early intervention model of support for individuals grappling with mental health and/or musculoskeletal conditions and were at risk of, or entering sickness absence. The integrated model employed by the project aimed to enhance health, well-being, and employment outcomes, providing holistic support tailored to each individual. The key aims of the project were to:
Deliver a fast-track, early intervention model of support for mental health and musculoskeletal conditions
Improve health, well-being, and employment outcomes for participants
Create a holistic package of support for each individual in the WorkFit initiative
